Garasia Hut – Rajasthan
The Garasia constitute the third largest tribal group in Rajasthan and tend to be located in the southwest quarter of the state, particularly between Udaipur and Mount Abu. The Garasia women are extremely colorful in their attire, which consists of a full, multi-colored skirt and a blouse, and they deck themselves with heavy silver jewelry. Both joint and nuclear families are common amongst the Garasia, and a married son will often live separately from his parents.
The Garasia hut, which is stonewalled and mud rendered, contains only one room, but the spacious open-fronted verandah is where most of the daily activity takes place, such as the food preparation, cooking and socializing.
