Kolhapur Hut – Maharashtra

Kolhapur is renowned for its leatherwork, and this hut is that of a Kolhapur shoemaker. The building is rectangular and divided into three rooms. The first room of the hut is used as shoemaker’s workshop whilst the other two rooms are used for domestic purpose. The structural material for the walls is made by pounding a mixture of pebbles and mud into large square molds to form building blocks which are then used unfired.
